Ethics for Earth Mothers
INTRODUCING ETHICS FOR EARTH MOTHERS
Building an Ecological Ethics
Within Feminist Theory, scholars and activists have utilized Eco-Feminism, Eco-Criticism, and Ecological Thought to advance more inclusive and intersectional understandings of the relationship between the environment and earth-dwellers. Therefore, this course incorporates discussions of ecology and the role that feminist and maternal ethics of care and love play in conceptualizing environmental justice and racism. Utilizing the lens of ethics and justice, we will critically analyze readings and writings from a legacy of Black Feminists, Activists, Archivists, and Creatives who incorporate or center environmental consciousness in their work. Finally, the course will culminate in a manifesto-writing project that blends art and activism's role in making social change through the individual and the collective.

By co-creating a sustainable and equitable community that is built on love and care, we hope to inspire students to leave the course with a greater understanding of the importance of fostering a beloved community that is sustainable and equitable for all.
Ethics for Earth Mothers
This vision will be realized by expanding our definition of mothering and learning manifesto-writing. Throughout history, manifestos have been used to express the beliefs and values of individuals and groups. They can outline a plan of action or a vision for the future, particularly within activist circles. Manifestos can cover various topics and are written in various formats depending on the writer's audience, period, and intent. This course will examine several manifestos written by Black feminist scholars and activists that focus on social and environmental justice issues. By studying and writing manifestos, you will better understand your relationship to mothering and manifesting a more just and equitable relationship to the earth and others.
